Eastern German companies have shaped the transformation of the country’s energy policies. Over the last thirty years, the region has developed outstanding expertise in photovoltaics, wind power, biomass and geothermal energy, continuously optimising the technologies and processes involved.

For example, in 2018 the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was already generating 178 per cent of its own electricity requirements from renewable sources.

Energy generation is only part of the story: efficient energy storage is equally crucial, whether in batteries, pumped or phase-change forms, and whether heat or electricity storage is the imperative.

Over 1,200 companies working in sustainable energy handling are part of the CLEANTECH Initiative Eastern Germany.
